Some OFB projects are conceived in both professional and Home versions, as with the model created for Aimé Leon Dore. After perfecting the component assembly sequence on the professional Linea Classic S, we applied the same approach to the Linea Micra, using the same materials, details, and finishes. Working with larger components might seem easier, but the assembly challenges are almost always the same.

One of the most critical aspects of the work at Officine Fratelli Bambi is defining the line between the details that reveal something has been made by hand and what might instead be perceived as a flaw in the workmanship. This is why the pursuit of exceptional quality is always pushed to the highest level—and, if anything, even further for a machine designed for the home.

Attention to detail is meticulous because, on a La Marzocco Home espresso machine, the customer’s perception of aesthetic imperfections is amplified. A professional machine, designed for a working environment, is likely to be judged first on its functionality and then on its appearance. A bespoke home espresso machine, by contrast, is not a tool expected to generate revenue, but a statement piece that becomes part of the interior of the home it belongs to.

The challenges increase when new materials and new processes come into play, requiring testing, experimentation, and repeated attempts. Solutions often emerge through teamwork, knowledge built through experience, and the ability to “listen” to the materials—to be patient and allow each process the time it needs rather than forcing it.

The Aimé Leon Dore model incorporates walnut components into a body made from either aluminum or steel. Working by hand makes it possible to achieve a level of precision that industrial suppliers cannot always guarantee, as their processes and equipment are designed for large-scale production.

During assembly, the metal panels must connect with the wooden elements without leaving any gaps, while aligning perfectly with the slots inside the walnut components. In this way, the walnut pieces become fully integrated into the structure of an object as solid and functional as an espresso machine, effectively acting as the connection between its different elements.
