Explore the journey behind every cup.

Every day, millions of people prepare, serve, and enjoy coffee.

Coffee is one of the world’s most enduring rituals. Yet, for something so deeply embedded in our daily lives, its complexity often goes unnoticed.

Expressions like Arabica, Robusta, processing, light roast, or extraction have become part of the conversation, but they are frequently used without a clear understanding of what they actually mean. At the same time, the coffee industry continues to evolve. Climate change is reshaping coffee-growing regions, new processing techniques are expanding the sensory vocabulary, and baristas and roasters have transformed coffee into an increasingly sophisticated craft.

Understanding coffee means looking beyond the cup.

Every espresso is the result of a long chain of relationships. It begins with a living plant, shaped by genetics and environment. It continues through cultivation, harvesting, processing, and roasting before reaching the espresso machine, where technique and precision reveal the coffee’s full potential. Finally, every cup is completed by the person tasting it, bringing perception, memory, and experience into the equation.

No single element defines quality on its own. Coffee is the product of connections.

This idea is at the heart of Coffee Facts, a new editorial series created by Accademia del Caffè Espresso to explore the craft behind every cup.

Rather than collecting curiosities or technical definitions, the project follows coffee as a journey, breaking it into sixteen accessible topics organised into four chapters. Each chapter focuses on a different stage of coffee’s story, helping build a broader understanding one step at a time.

The series begins with the coffee plant itself, exploring species, varieties, and the foundations of coffee. It then moves through the transformations that occur between the farm and the roastery, before examining the variables that shape espresso extraction and, finally, the elements that influence how we taste, interpret, and appreciate coffee.

Taken as a whole, these chapters reveal a perspective that is often overlooked: coffee cannot be understood by looking at individual parts in isolation. Every decision has an impact on the next step, and every stage contributes to the final experience.

Coffee Facts was created to make these connections easier to explore. The more we learn about coffee, the more meaningful and conscious our experience becomes.
